just another day in paradise....

Wonder of wonders---we have 2 bathrooms in this house and 4 kids to get onto the same school bus at the same time--and my two darling stepdaughters took all the time in them until I had to go tell them to let the boys have a turn. Now they are allowed each 10 minutes to do their thing when we have all 4 teens here. The fun part will be Ron taking "my" 2 and "our" 1 to the shop with him tonight, and me picking up "his" 2 (don't worry--when they act up, they are ALL his!) after I get off work at 10pm tonight--and drive to the other end of the county to get them and go home. WHEW!! Glad I'm off this weekend.

Anyway, quick pet peeve----headlights. Use them. Always. If you just can't bring yourself to have them on all the time--believe it or not people will see you if you do---then at least use them on rainy days, cloudy days, fog conditions. And by the way, those of you with those stupid "fog lights", they blind people at night. Believe it or not. So if you get someone's brights flashed at you, that is why. All these are makers ought to find a way so that they can be disabled when not needed--the lights, that is. Just because it is dark does not necessitate using those lights-your headlights are sufficient. If it is foggy, then no problem, use them. That's why they are called FOG lights. And to those who use those blue or green lights, sorry, I can;t stand those at night either. Same reason, too bright.

Lights. From the WV State Code

§17C-15-2. When lighted lamps are required.

Every vehicle other than a school bus, motorcycle, motor-driven cycle or moped operated upon a highway within this state at any time from sunset to sunrise, or during fog, smoke, rain or other unfavorable atmospheric conditions, or at any other time when there is not sufficient light to render clearly discernible persons and vehicles on the highway at a distance of five hundred feet ahead, shall display lighted head lamps and illuminating devices as hereinafter respectively required for different classes of vehicles, subject to exceptions with respect to parked vehicles as provided for in subsection (c), section fifteen-c of this article. Every school bus, motorcycle, motor-driven cycle and moped shall display lighted head lamps at all times when upon the highway.

§17C-15-17. Spot lamps and other auxiliary lamps.

(b) Fog lamps. -- Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two fog lamps mounted on the front at a height not less than twelve inches nor more than thirty inches above the level surface upon which the vehicle stands and so aimed that when the vehicle is not loaded none of the high-intensity portion of the light to the left of the center of the vehicle shall at a distance of twenty-five feet ahead project higher than a level of four inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes.

The unfortunate problem is that that there is no provision in state law that I have found as of yet to require that fog lamps be amber in color. It does show that they are to be pointed DOWN however. The light at 25 feet out has to be no HIGHER that 4 inches BELOW the center of the fog lamp. Very few are mounted properly.

Time to write letters to your state senator and delegates. yeah. right.

Appreciate the WV code. I knew basically what it was, but always good to have it in black and white. Thanks to Jared for that.

Tanstaafl, you get weirder all the time. One would think you ain;t got no fetchings' up. As for the lights on when the wipers are on thing, yeah I know it's law and you know it's law, but there is the matter of the other 99.999999% of drivers who couldn't give a rat's #$% about it being law or not, as shown by the fact that they don't use their lights even when the law calls for it--even the cops!!!
