Nothing raises my spirits more than looking down the tunnel of what constitutes my family's finances and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.....the one that says we will get through this and if all continues to go well, sooner than later......
Another spirit raiser, although I have fought against it for a month, is listening to Christmas music...especially while baking lots of cookies......
Spirits are raised enough that I actually had my son pull the totes of Christmas decorations out of the shed and began putting a few up today.......
Now to get through the next two weeks of the retail silly season......LOL.....

Black Friday
Let me begin by saying I have worked retail for the last 22 years. I've worked as a cashier, stocker, and every level of mgmt from key carrier to store mgr.....and I hate Black Friday.
I have no problem with huge sales to draw in crowds. My problem is with the way the crowds behave. And it is not all of them....a good many are simply there for the fun of it....I don't get it, fun waiting in the cold and losing sleep? to each their own.
My problem is with the me me's ---the ones who think that no matter where they are in the crowd, they should get what they want and to hell with everyone who was there ahead of them.....the ones who think that if they don't have that one item at that certain price, life is over.
The ones who, as I heard today, pepper spray their fellow shoppers so they can get the deals before anyone else. The ones who literally trample on top of others to get there first. The ones who would probably decapitate their own mother to get what they want.
Because they want it.
Grow up, go home, get some sleep. It will all be better December 26th.

all right here we go
Before reading any further, please note last blog entry that stated I would probably offend...if you are a thin skinned liberal, and you read further and are offended......don't blame me, I tried to warn you. You'd probably jump off a bridge if everyone else did, too...oh that's right, you already did when you hitched your cart to a donkey.....
Anyway, the latest version of the Occupy Wall Street demands.....now, granted, these supposedly aren't official, but I've seen too many similar versions to not believe that at least some of these are what they are after....from the OWS blog site--which by the way, you have to be logged into to comment.....
7. single payer, universal health care system------this one has been argued to death and I'm sick of it.........start making people responsible for their own health care choices.....and quit letting them use the ER to run up big tabs for the sniffles, and start actually prosecuting those who knowingly defraud the system.......there is no reason to pay $50 for a tylenol when I can buy the generic at the dollar store for yep you guessed it, a DOLLAR!!!!
8. stricter campaign finance laws----ban all private donations, all elections funded by the taxpayer........well obviously you have your head up your ass. I'm all for reforming campaign finance laws, like no donations from corporations or unions or foreign entities of any kind. Only individual citizens should be allowed to donate to any given campaign, as much as they want. But absolutely NO donations by any group of any kind as a group. And no picking my pocket to fund anything I do not give my express permission for.
9. a negative income tax, and tax the rich up to 90% of their income------again your head is up your ass.......hello, the rich are the ones who provide a hell of a lot of jobs in this country, so tax 90% of their income and they have to reason not only to create jobs and opportunities, they have no incentive to work either. We may as well be Sweden or some other country where income is taxed to death........
10. stricter environmental and animal rights laws--------well since people with a puddle in their front yard can't mow anymore for fear of disturbing a "wetland", and animals have more rights than humans........any questions? Didn't think so.
11. allow workers to elect their supervisors?------ummmmm, when I stop laughing long enough, I might just comment on this one.........
12. lower retirement age to 55 and raise social security benefits........ok, we have already had the work day lowered to 6 hrs from 8 or more, so less income. Which means less income to be taxed for SS benefits.....now lower the age of retirement to 55, you shorten the working life, which also means less taxable income available to derive benefits from.....so how do we raise the amount of benefits? Oh yeah, I guess there's always ANOTHER loan from China.......
13. 5% annual wealth tax for the very rich------ummmm, I think we already covered taxing the rich as punishment for being rich a couple of points ago...........
14. Ban private ownership of land------um yeah, you can have my land I have worked all my life to have the privilege of living on with no landlord to tell me what to do with my own home....NOT by a longshot......I bought it with my money from my paycheck I get for working......and you will take it from me when I am out of ammo........and not even then.....I will hide your body so no one will ever even know you existed........give me a break....
15..Make home schooling illegal b/c religious people feed their children propoganda that way......ummm, and forcing them to watch Channel 1 in public school is not feeding them liberal nonsense? Home schooling is how those who can teach their children not only the material they actually need to learn to master a subject, but also to impart their values. By the grace of God, my kids attend public school, but have come through it with the values we teach them instead of what liberal leftie loonies want them to know......
16. reduce the age of majority to 16.......is this to try to make up for some of the lack of taxes the govt will receive from the lower paychecks of the shorter workdays and shortened working years ? Or is it a ploy to make the age of consent lower also so parents have less say in the lives of emotionally and mentally immature children?
17. Abolish the death penalty and life in prison....etc....I'm sorry, I'm not a huge fan of the death penalty, but some crimes demand it. Rape and murder a child, yes. Mass murder or serial murder, yes. Life in prison......well the year I would give you to appeal your sentence before we put you in front of the firing squad, well consider it your life sentence. If you commit a crime, do the damn time or do not do the crime. Plain and simple. It's God's law and man;s law. Deal with it,.
18. release all political prisoner immediately-----yeah please release me from the never ending gridlock and stupidity and pure ignorance that populates the world of politics.
19. immediate withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan---ok, I will give on that one----but it has to be done so as not to put our troops at any more risk than they absolutely have to be.....
20. abolish the debt limit-------so we can go into even more debt that we can't repay? Why not just tell China to come take us over ? WTF are you thinking?????????Doesn't make sense any way you look at it........
21. ban private gun ownership........HELL NO AND OVER MY DEAD BODY AND DO YOU FEEL LUCKY PUNK????? kiss my butt and whatever else you think you can reach before you hit the ground........and try not to bleed on my carpet.
22.strengthen the separation of church and state......ok once again, let me try to explain this to you using the smallest words I can find. The Constitution says the govt shall not ESTABLISH a religion---make us all worship the same way, etc......ok? It does not say that I cannot freely worship as I see fit, whether you like it or not.....tolerance goes both ways....I have to tolerate that you worship yourself, well, then you may have to suffer seeing my bowed head when I sit to eat dinner at a restaurant.
23. immediate debt forgiveness for all? well i'd like to say hell to the yeah, but I was taught that if something sounds too good to be true it probably is, and if I wasn't a little on the tired side at the moment from trying to give logical responses to the rest of these ridiculous demands, I might be able to figure out just what is so wrong with this one....besides the fact that it would immediately put a lot of businesses out of business b/c no one could afford to buy anything.....cars, homes, etc.......businesses would not be able to upgrade in some cases...Debt is not something most people aspire too, but it is an unfortunate fact of living in this overtaxed society.
24. end the war on drugs-------sure, make 'em legal and tax the hell out of them......then the growers and suppliers and dealers and users would just find something else........

Repeal the Taft-Hartley Act. Unionize ALL workers immediately.

Institute a moratorium on all foreclosures and layoffs immediately.
Repeal racist and xenophobic English-only laws.
Open the borders to all immigrants, legal or illegal. Offer immediate, unconditional amnesty, to all undocumented residents of the US.
Create a single-payer, universal health care system.
Pass stricter campaign finance reform laws. Ban all private donations. All campaigns will receive equal funding, provided by the taxpayers.
Institute a negative income tax, and tax the very rich at rates up to 90%.
Pass far stricter environmental protection and animal rights laws.
Allow workers to elect their supervisors.

Ok, let's pick some of these apart.....
1. Unionize all workers immediately......does this also mean management? What if a worker doesn't want to be in a union? Why would anyone want this, except for liberals and communists, who would then use the vast amounts of new union dues to forward their lost and misguided cause? Oh and if you want an immediate way for ALL prices to increase on EVERYTHING, yeah, go ahead and unionize, b/c every single time a union is brought in and the company accepts a demand, prices go up b/c the company is not going to lose money. Otherwise they cease to exist and as shit flows downhill, so does that local union.
2. Minimum wage to $18/hr and maximum $90/hr??? Well, I thought the goal was to level the playing field, so wouldn't everyone have to be paid the same regardless of what they do?
3. Ok a 6 hr workday, especially as I am retail management headed into the Christmas season, yeah that sounds pretty good.....but now this 6 wks paid vacation, while it sounds pretty good, let's take where I work for example. Right now we have 7 fulltime workers, including management, who are eligible for paid vacations , the number of weeks based on years of service. So 4 of us have been there long enough to reach the max of 4 wks per year, 1 gets 3 wks, the other 2 get 2 weeks. So there are 23 of the 52 weeks of the year accounted for. Take out of the equation the 8 weeks prior to Christmas where no one is allowed, due to business needs, to take vacation, so we are down to 44 weeks, of which you have already used 23. Then take out the 4 wks prior to inventory and we are down to 40 available weeks for vacation, of which 23 are spoken for. 17 weeks left to account for, just for full timers, an additional 14 weeks of vacation, which leaves 3 weeks leftover. Yeah and that doesn't account for the part timers, whom I am assuming would also be allowed to take those 6 weeks ......Now I know my math is a little off, b/c I forgot that I needed to add more than two weeks to the ones who didn't already have 4 wks, but the point is the same.....y'all don't have any frigging clue how a business operates.......
4. A moratorium on all foreclosure and layoffs....ok, let's leave the foreclosures out of this for a minute.....So at the end of the Christmas season, when I no longer need the seasonal employees I hired, who know they are only seasonal workers, I would have to keep them....ok fine, then they and the ones who have been there for years get like 5 hours a week, because that is all the payroll I will have come January. How about the ski resorts who don't need the lift operators come June? I'm sorry, your math does not compute....and that's just on layoffs.
5. Racist and xenophobic English only laws? ok, muhammed...you came to this country, so Pablo---learn to speak and do business in the language of the country you came to.....I couldn't give a horse's patootie what language you speak in your own home....speak Klingon for all I care....but by God, when I pick up a phone to call a business or go through a drive through or have to have emergency medical care....I WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHO THE HELL I AM SPEAKING TO---AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY NEED TO UNDERSTAND ME!!!!!!!! got it???? Good......
6. Open all borders to any kind of immigrant..offer immediate amnesty to any currently here illegally..........I have so many problems with this, I can;t even begin to enumerate them....First and foremost, yes as a country we have always welcomed immigrants, in general. While there have been pockets of anti-certain-groups, in general we have been a pretty friendly place to come and live. However, we also have laws on the books....the FEDERAL books....that give the ways in which to do this legally. Please do so or leave. That is all for the moment.

growing up
My baby turned 10 today. 10. 10 years ago she was barely as long as the length between her knee and ankle now. Now she is almost up to my neck in height. She had no sense of humor for the first six months...just a killer case of colic. Now almost anything will make her giggle, or at least look at me with that look and say "Seriously, Mom?"
She used to be my little pink girly girl. Now she has her girly moments, but she'd just as soon climb a tree or play with the dogs and goats our neighbors have. Dresses used to be all she wanted to wear and now she wears her jeans out faster than her brothers ever did. And pink is a thing of the past, for the most part, replaced by lime green and orange and yellow and stuff with peace signs and skulls......
Boys used to be yuck...and to a degree they still are, but she claims to have a boyfriend. Yeah we'll see about that.....my husband is drawing up plans for the sniper tower as we speak....
She is sharp as a tack, though. 4th grade and she reads books some high schoolers would have trouble with. Math is one of her strong subjects, too. Matter of fact, we haven't found too much she is not good at, unless it's cleaning her room and picking her stuff up.

blogs?
So I go to click on my son's blog to see if he's updated yet, and he hasn't, so I click "next blog" and am treated to a variety of crap i have absolutely no interest in, such as those done in Russian, anything to do with hip-hop, baseball, hockey, or catholic parish news--not anti catholic, just not interested in some parish clear across the country from me.....
Of course then there are the inevitable go-green blogs, stay at home mommy blogs---now some of those can be quite interesting and funny---and the blogs by those who idolize barbra streisand and rosie o'donnell.....gag, barf, yuck.
I do think it's neat to see all the things that others think are important enough to blog about......and I'm sure that some flipping past my blog have thoughts of their own that may not be flattering to me, but hey....my biggest problem is that for some reason, blogger or google chrome seemed to really like running the same blogs past my screen. Sorry, I don;'t speak romanian...
Oh well,
time to be more productive...back to my sewing table.......

just for the record...
I think Obama needs to grow up and take his Chicago style politics back to Illinois.
I think the Republican party better embrace the Tea Party in a big way and quit putting them down and blocking their way if they want to have a prayer of winning in 2012.Because as they stand right now, I think I'm going 3rd party.
And I think the GOP and the media need to quit treating people who speak their mind, like Gov. Perry (although I don't see a lot different with him than the other candidates), as nutcases.
And Jay Carney needs a real job, b/c as the Pres's press flunkie, he sucks........
And I now return to my regularly scheduled vacation......

Dumbocity
Yeah, I know it's not technically a word, but my dad likes it, so hey.....
So, which political party is for the people? Not the Dems; they want to tax us all into a welfare state. Not the Republicans: they can't seem to find the gonads to stick to the stands they make. This whole debt crisis fiasco is just that, a fiasco, a snafu.....as in situation normal all f'd up. The normal state of affairs in DC. And I am sick and tired of it.....
Stupid idiot politicians think we are dumb as bricks. I've got news for them---I am not stupid. I know right from wrong. I know that if you spend more than you make, you end up in debt....and in the real world, there are real consequences...you lose your home, your car, your belongings...if you took it far enough, you get to stay in jail for a while......you can lose your job if it goes far enough.
There's a thought--they should all lose their jobs---every single member of congress who voted for the no debt reduction bill.....and Obama should lose his job. Now. Impeach his ass. Impeach Biden's as well---I think he qualifies as a seditionist. Calling those who disagree with his party's agenda domestic terrorists......dumbass.....go back to plagarizing your speeches, they were better then.....
All I know is, my sons could not get jobs this summer due to the economy. Businesses all around us are closing down or struggling to survive. I work for a national retail chain, and some days it gets tough....if people don;t have the money or if they are afraid to spend what they have, we have an off day.......duh.....
"It's the economy, stupid." Ring a bell for anyone? Someone needs to whap someone upside the head with it b/c no one in power gets it......no jobs, no spending, no taxes, no money.......see where it's headed?

All I know is, my sons could not get jobs this summer due to the economy. Businesses all around us are closing down or struggling to survive. I work for a national retail chain, and some days it gets tough....if people don;t have the money or if they are afraid to spend what they have, we have an off day.......duh.....

not moving to Indiana
Just saying.....not that I had any intention of doing so, but in light of their asinine supreme court's decision to vacate the 4th amendment to our Constitution....well let's just say "never" has occurred
How can a State supreme court vacate an entire section of the Nation's law????Not to mention something that has been around since the Magna Carta??? Are they lunatics??? Temporarily insane?
No, just more of Nobama's toadies......watch out America, coming soon to a courthouse near you.....
Meantime, I think I will follow an Indiana friend's example and post a copy of the aforesaid document to my front door and say "double dog dare ya!!!!"

To Bin or Not to Bin..Laden that is....
So this past Sunday, if we believe the govt..which I don't usually have a tendency to do, a team of Navy SEALS at the direction of our beloved hack cough puke President, took out enemy # 1 Osama Bin Laden......ok, wow, woo-hoo.....
Now that the celebrating is done, let me explain the slight skepticism and sarcasm you may have already detected (you're good!!)....
Yes, I am glad that as world threats go, he is no longer around. No I do not rejoice in the death of others, even if they may have been spawned by Satan himself..... (no I have no proof that this is true, bear with me)....I am just simply glad that he himself no longer poses a threat. It's past time we got at least a little payback for 9/11, the USS Cole, our embassies, and so on......(Yeah Mr. Clinton, if you hadn't been so busy getting busy with the intern, you could have done this too).
My sour note comes from being unable to discern which official party line we the people are supposed to believe. First we are told one thing, then another, then yet another. It happened last week, no the go-ahead was given last week, no the go-ahead was given just prior to the action......it was a bomb, it was a drone, it was a bullet to the head.....we'll show you the pics as proof, no we won't ...etc...you get my point.....

the Nanny state and other opinions
So since my last post, I've been doing a lot of reading, watching, 'net news surfing, and just simply thinking about a lot of stuff that goes on in the world....and most of the conclusions I come to are not very flattering to people in general.
First, as a rule, we are sheep. We like to be spoon fed our information. This is so wrong on so many levels, it's hard to enumerate them all. But to put it simply, if you rely on one source for your information, you become afflicted with the bias or viewpoint of your supplier.....and the credibility of journalism went out the window long ago. There is no longer an unbiased viewpoint (Sorry, Foxnews, even you guys skew it your way. At least, it is a refreshing change from the CNN bullshit). No longer can you pick up a newspaper and be assured that what you are reading is "just the facts, ma'am." I can't pinpoint when exactly it happened, but I first started noticing it in the mid 1990's, and it progressively gets worse with time. This is why I began teaching my kids to question everything they hear, see, or read, and to verify the veracity of the information by using a variety of sources.
Next, we are hard-headed and close-minded as a group. If you say something that someone else disagrees with, suddenly you are stupid, irrational, uneducated, and just plain wrong. Free speech is fast becoming a thing of the past, because suddenly you can't disagree with what the President or any of his cronies say or do. If you do, you are guilty of at the least, misunderstanding them or at the worst you are considered seditious. Forget the First Amendment, because in so many's eyes, the Constitution does not exist. We need to open our eyes and our ears and listen to what is actually being said, and see what is actually going on around us. And we need to open our mouths, use our pens, and our keyboards, and speak out against what is wrong and support what is right. Or it will get worse, and suddenly little obscure blogs like this one will be outlawed.
We need to quit abdicating our responsibilities, both as citizens and as parents, to others. Quit letting others make our decisions for us. If we continue to allow this, sooner or later it won't even be our decision when or what to eat, or how to dress, much less how to vote or discipline our kids. We are told by our govt and our teachers and so on that our kids are fat and lazy and stupid, and they, the enlightened ones, are the answer to solving these problems. Only they don't...they make them worse by not holding them accountable for their actions. By not teaching the subjects they are paid to teach, instead showing movies during class time and teaching solely so the kids might score well on the state's standardized tests, so that it looks like the teachers are doing their jobs. They expect us to abdicate our parental duties at the school door and let the school system teach them that alternative lifestyles and condoms are the greatest thing since Liza Minelli...... and we the parents who try to teach our kids right from wrong and that certain actions have certain consequences and so on are told we are in the wrong, that we are warping our kids.
Everything is leading to a huge Nanny State. Where the govt is our daddy and provides for us and our needs. Where we don't have to make decisions for ourselves. Where we are told what to do and who to be and what to do with our lives.
Yeah. Ask the USSR how well that worked for them......oh you can't? They no longer exist as such? Well, folks, guess where our reality is headed....................

introspection
Being introspective isn't such a bad thing...the last few days, I have been doing a lot of thinking about my life and that of my family. Probably spurred on by the changing of the old year to the new and the funeral of my uncle.
I am a mouthy person, opinionated, sarcastic, tell it like I see it kind of person.....sometimes I think I am a hard person too.....I love deeply and passionately when I love....my husband and my family and friends all know this, but sometimes I feel that side of me gets lost in the everyday mundane routine of work and home.....Lots of times I feel as if all I do is order and command others to do stuff, and yell and scream and pout if they don't....not how I want to be. I don't like to yell, and I don't like to order people around; I do enough of that at work.
So I've got a plan, sort of....first we start by cleaning and organizing the house and our lives.....and downsize as we do....if we haven't used it, don't wear it, won't play with it, then out it goes.....if we have to load down both trucks several times and haul the crap away, so be it. My thinking is that the simpler we make our home life, the more hassle free it will be. There is too much stuff in the house, and the garage and the shed and our lives in general......all it does is clutter and get in the way.....which then aggravates various members of the family, generally the adults, and it's all downhill from there....I don't like it. So I must work to change it.....
Hopefully that will end up taking care of some of the frustration I feel around here. Hence, less yelling and more fun......
Next, I feel a very real need to get my spiritual life back in line. It's been over a year since I went to church, probably that long since I opened my Bible. I listen randomly to K-Love radio when I am driving, and it helps, but I need a spiritual meal, not just a snack....if church is not something I can feasibly do, then I must read and study my Bible like I used to when I was first saved, back in college...Back then I couldn't wait to get home from class or work and just dig in to my Bible study. Campus Crusade was a wonderful outlet also. Now I have a big case of "no time", when actually I just need to make it a priority. Which is more important, Facebook or my relationship with God? Yes, that was a rhetorical question.....
I need to make time for each of my children, and truly listen to what they have to say, instead of relying on the sound bites as they race for the school bus or as we rush around in the evenings between dinner prep and bedtime prep and everything that occurs in between.....my oldest is already in college, and thank goodness for email and facebook--we do talk pretty regularly, but my younger son is halfway thru his junior year of high school, already doing the college tests and so on, and my youngest child, well heck she is smarter than all of us put together, and doesn't hesitate to tell us so....LOL.....
Everything I want to do to try to better our lives, I need help with....prayers, too....my family has to pitch in and just do without waiting for me to tell them what to do.....I need to just do, instead of simply coming in from work and collapsing into the nearest unoccupied piece of furniture......
