Is it the first of the month or what?

Oh my God. I thought the full moon was last week......But it is the first of the month and the holiday weekend so we had all walks of life in the store today. Ok I am going to reitierate some basic rules for going out in public, especially to any store.....

1. Do NOT come in the door and yell at me before you give me the chance to help you with whatever it is you need help with. It does not make me want to deal with you, nor, like I tell my kids when they bitch and whine, it does not make me want to look at it your way at all. Even if you get what you want, it is only to get you the hell out of my store, and generally with a comment just shy of don't come back. I say just shy, because I do not want home office called on me, but I want you to know just how asinine you acted.

2. Be patient. Yes, there are actually times when everyone employed there is busy with someone else. Wait your turn. Stamping your feet (yes people actually do that) and heaving the big overblown sigh and glaring at everyone in sight or making rude little comments is not going to make your wait any shorter. First come, first serve. Sorry.

3. Yes the customer is always right-----except when you are dead wrong. As in the case of someone bringing an item in to return, being told it was from another retailer, and threatening my job because I don;t give her her money back when the item is clearly labeled with the other retailers' tag. Be reasonable. Be intelligent.

4. Say "excuse me" when you need thru an aisle, whether you say it to another customer or to someone working in that aisle. Both are deserving of your courtesy.

5. Save your receipt. SAVE your receipt. SAVE YOUR receipt. SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!!!! Need I say it again? Every place I have ever been hands you a receipt with your change, as do we. Do not toss it on the ground and walk away, and then get pissed when I won't give you your money back when the posted policy clearly states a receipt is necessary. It is my job to give you a receipt, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make sure you have it before you leave the register.

I'm sure I could come up with more, but I am tired. I need a bath and I need to go to sleep. Probably Nyquil induced as my sinuses have given me the biggest headache of my life--that and tension..........

Happy Labor Day to all who have and will labor.

Amen.

Everyone should spend at least one year working in the service industry. Then perhaps they would understand how far a little politeness and patience can go.

Absolutely. And Black Friday should be mandatory. I have had cashiers apologize to me for the behavior of the customer in front of me, which held up the line......I find I am a lot more patient with the cashiers and such in stores, because they do not make policy or anything, but they take the biggest load of crap from people. But I do find I am more impatient with the management--not always at store level, for decisions on product placement, layouts, lack of front-end coverage during high traffic hours or key selling days---like the day before a holiday.....
