Rock on, dude!!!!!!

The quote from my darling 5 yr old as she learned something new this weekend. We were all at my mom's enjoying their pool Saturday after the rest of the family had gotten all hot and sweaty going geocaching with my friend from college. Shellie was doing her usual routine of not wanting anyone to teach her to swim or float, she just wanted to do things her way. Typical.

So imagine all of our surprise when she dunked her head underwater and leaned forward like she was taking off into the breastroke and then came up grinning. So I told her is she had just taken her other foot off the floor of the pool she would be swimming. Guess what? She took it to heart and right there began to teach herself to swim. By the time we got out of the pool about half an hour later--only because I still had to hit the store for dinner supplies---she was swimming with her face underwater for about 5 feet.

Sunday she did even better, going about 7-8 feet--I think the pool is 15 feet. Very proud of herself, and she got to show off for Daddy as well when he came over after work to hang with the family.

But the cutest thing of all was how the first time she did it, her head came out of the water and she planted her feet shoulder-width apart in the pool and stuck both arms in the air over her head like a rock star after an awesome performance and yelled "ROCK ON DUDE!!!!!"

And to her, and us, it WAS an awesome performance!!!!!and proud doesn;t even begin to describe how we feel.
